FYI: Tea Bag The White House

FYI

At about 2 mins into the segment, the reporter refers to people ready to "tea bag the White House." For those that don't know, teabagging has a sexual connotation that--according to Wikipedia--means "the act of a man placing his testicles in the mouth or on or around the face (including the top of the head) of another person, often in a repeated in-and-out motion." Are the Obamas into teabagging?

FYI: Call for Submissions - Bisexualities and Spiritualities

FYI

JOURNAL OF BISEXUALITY
Special Issue
BISEXUALITIES and SPIRITUALITIES
Call for Submissions
1/19/09

Over the last decade much has been written about the spirituality of lesbian- and gay-identified persons but not as much about people drawn to more than one gender. As a corpus of work, those writings include diverse voices and experiences across ethnicities, genders, and spiritual/religious traditions. We seek to further the discourse on the relationship between sexuality and spirituality in this special issue of the Journal of Bisexuality.

We invite the submission of proposals or completed first drafts that explore and examine bisexualities practiced within, alongside, and in response to spiritualities and vice versa. In this context, spirituality should be understood to be inclusive of religious practice or affiliation but also included in this understanding are ways of life that are rooted in wisdom traditions that are not defined by/as religion. We seek thoughtful, critical, and theoretically grounded work in any form including empirical research articles, creative non-fiction, theoretical essays, narrative inquiry, auto/ethnographies, poetry, short stories, histories, literary criticism, cultural studies, etc., particularly those which foreground intersections, borderlands, or complications.

FYI: Breaking the Silence: Fulfilling The Promise by Marimba Ani

FYI

Amura Onaa tells us that when our Ancestors were being torn apart from each other, we looked into each other’s eyes and made a solemn promise. We promised to reconnect with each other so that this tearing apart would never happen again. It is the Afrikan belief that we are our Ancestors reborn, and through this spiritual rebirth, we gain eternal life. The promise could only be fulfilled by future generations returning as Afrikans who had made this sacred promise to each other. What our Ancestors suffered over centuries, could only have been survived because they had hope. But what could possibly have given them cause for hope? If they had not survived and bore children who bore children who bore children, we would not be here. It is the Afrikan belief that we choose to be born when we are in the spirit world, and that we make a contract to fulfill a purpose in this life. All of this can only mean that we have chosen to be born Afrikan and that we are the hope of our Ancestors. Our purpose on this earth is to avenge our Ancestors and to achieve the victory: Afrikan sovereignty through a Pan-Afrikan world order based on the principles of MAAT. It is our choice to fulfill The Promise to our Ancestors by achieving the victory denied them.

It is now Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Is this the final act of assimilation, accommodation, and integration? Is this how we are fulfilling our promise to the Ancestors? Has America made restitution for what was done to them, still being done to us? Is the Maafa over or has it merely morphed into another, more insidious form of genocide? Are we now experiencing a life-threatening condition of cultural AIDS in which our immune system has turned on itself? Has the Yurugu virus mutated so that it looks like us? Are we participating in our own self-destruction?

FYI: Alexyss K. Tylor

FYI

Today, we received this clip from one of our friends on myspace.com. It is a video clip from Alexyss K. Tylor, a sexuality educator who we have featured on this site before in an Essential Questions interview. Alexyss has a significant cult following on the Internet. We have loved the passion she consistently demonstrates in her analysis of sexism, heterosexism, and white supremacy.

We are not sure of the date this video was made and haven't spoken to Alexyss in some time but we hope the dynamics she refers to in the video have been resolved and peace, pleasure, and passion have been restored. Take away lesson from the video: Don't piss Alexyss off! Really, just don't.

FYI: From BBC News: Circumcision HIV impact doubted

FYI

"There is no hard evidence that circumcision protects gay men from HIV, research shows.

African trials have shown circumcision cuts the likelihood of female to male HIV transmission by up to 60%.

But a US analysis of data on 53,567 men who have sex with other men found HIV rates were not significantly lower among those who were circumcised.

The Journal of the American Medical Association study stressed more work was needed to draw firm conclusions."

FYI: From Current : Gay Jamaican Cop by Sassy Velvet

FYI

Notice the static shot. Why have him posing with the M16? Why have him hold the M16 like that? Notice the crisp, clean police uniform (that could be mistaken for a flight attendant's uniform), the small waist made to look even smaller by the tightened belt. What about the pursed lips and moody eyes? Get into the sign as well: CRIME. What's the relationship? Is he fighting the crime or is he the crime? Very interesting imagery at play here. Are we to empathize with him, despise him, desire him, or some combination of these options?

The faux-hawk works.

The media has given us several "Jamaica is the most homophobic place on earth" stories over the last several years. What is that all about? Can we separate Jamaica's relationship with the imperialism/colonialism of the United Kingdom, the neocolonialism of the International Monetary Fund and the United States, and the mental slavery of Christianity from Jamaica's relationship with heterosexism, homophobia, and patriarchy? It seems many in the European/US gay media can. Working class and poor Jamaicans are afforded the space to be hostile to batty bwoys while missing the tangible, visceral impact of Life and Debt. Folks are getting a pass by keeping the masses focused on social issues. Sound familiar?

You think he and Jonathan Plummer make a cute couple?

FYI: Older white women join Kenya's sex tourists By Jeremy Clarke (Reuters)

FYI

MOMBASA, Kenya (Reuters) - Bethan, 56, lives in southern England on the same street as best friend Allie, 64.

They are on their first holiday to Kenya, a country they say is "just full of big young boys who like us older girls."

Hard figures are difficult to come by, but local people on the coast estimate that as many as one in five single women visiting from rich countries are in search of sex.

Allie and Bethan -- who both declined to give their full names -- said they planned to spend a whole month touring Kenya's palm-fringed beaches. They would do well to avoid the country's tourism officials.

"It's not evil," said Jake Grieves-Cook, chairman of the Kenya Tourist Board, when asked about the practice of older rich women traveling for sex with young Kenyan men.

"But it's certainly something we frown upon."
