OUR INHERITANCE
We---whose ancestors created families, clans, villages, tribes, and nations filled with love, passion, life, desire, spirit, ferociousness, harmony, and power -- gather together to honor those dead who live in us, with us, and among us.

We---whose ancestors experienced European domination in the form of slavery, colonialism, scalping, rape, lynching, colonization, deculturalization, economic exploitation, and other forms of violence against the body -- gather together to heal those wounds and reclaim/affirm the power of the erotic, the power of the sensual, and the beauty of our sexualities in all their forms.

We---the people of the sun and the moon -- black, brown, red, and yellow come together to heal the EMS that we've learn and the EMS that we encounter in the world. We come to honor the spiritual in the physical and the physical in the spiritual -- body, mind, heart, and soul.

We come together to praise and honor that black soul that was the beginning of us all. We come together to honor that black ancestor who is great mother to us all. We come together to give respect to the primordial, black ocean from which all life began.

We call the modern manifestation of that blackness -- black funk. Black Funk represents more than skin color. Black Funk is the primordial, mystic waters of creation and transformation. Black Funk is a place of life and death. Black Funk is the beating of drums, hearts, and thighs. Black Funk is the lusty thirst, the passionate embrace of lovers, the rubbing of bellies pressed together in tune to the deep moans of a sultry singer while the red or blue light bathes the room in a beautiful mixture of light and dark.

OUR MISSION
Black Funk's mission is to provide a space for the exhibition and exploration of sensual awareness, sexual consciousness, erotic power, and pleasure; to provide a gathering place for sexually liberated people of color to express themselves and enjoy erotic events, demonstrations, and sexuality-related classes.

OUR VISION
We envision a network of communities, groups, and individuals who are committed to sexual empowerment and erotic liberation. We envision the creation of sexual culture community within which all of who we are is affirmed, nurtured, and caressed. We envision a global village in which hegemonic categories based upon gender, sexual identity, and race are rendered obsolete so that we can create sexual-sociocultural lives that are sustaining to our souls and affirming of our spirits.
